You may not be instantly familiar
with the name John Wilson but he's one the UK's greatest singers.
Over the years John has been involved
in all kinds of projects. From singing and playing in bands
(The Dodgers, The Heartbeats, The Average White Band), writing,
producing and singing on film scores, to acting in film and
television roles, John hasn't stopped working for the past 25
years. He's not about to either.
John's peers, having songs covered
by the likes of Bill Wyman, Cliff Richard and Status Quo, clearly
hold him in high regard. John's latest album, River of Love,
is outstanding. This collection of soulful rockers, full of
groove and genuine passion, highlight John's natural ability.
Check out title track 'River of Love', 'Jump Back' and,'24 Reasons',
the latter co-written by the late Tommy Evans (ex-Badfinger
and writer of 'Without You'). In addition, John also has the
gift of writing beautiful, classic ballads. 'Rainbows and You',
'We All Wanna Be In Love', 'Tell Me Something New' are great
examples of John in his element.
The album could easily have been
called 'Labour of Love', taking no less than five years to get
this point! As you'd imagine, the level of performance finally
attained on 'River of Love' is astonishing. John was never short
of seasoned musicians offering to play on the album and 'River
Of Love' features masterful performances from the likes of Alan
Darby on guitar (ERIC CLAPTON/BONNIE RAITT), bassists Steve
Pearce (STEVIE WONDER), Steve Price (BAD COMPANY) and Don Richardson
(LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY), keyboard players Malcolm Maddock (STEVIE
WONDER) and Simon Hales (OASIS/JAMIROQUAI) and drummer Frosty
(CUTTING CREW).
With a tour planned for late 2002
the live shows promise to be exceptional. |
